Bobux Xplorer Shoe Review

bobuxHere at Baby-A we were kindly sent some beautiful shoes from Bobux New Zealand to review. Bobux a New Zealand company…

Bobux began with Chris and Colleen’s quest in 1991 to find a soft flexible shoe that would stay on the feet of their 9 month old daughter, Chloe. At the time, the only offering was hard-soled shoes, that Chloe would not wear. The first Bobux shoe was created using soft leather and suede and included elastic around the ankle to ensure the shoe actually stayed on and allowed Chloe’s feet to develop naturally. That was it – the first Bobux Soft Sole was born!”
The shoes come from their new Xplorer range designed for first walkers.  On opening we found the shoes to be lovely and soft with a funky, bright design. There are 9 colours and 3 styles in the Xplorer shoe range. We opted for the lime green as we like the striking colour. The shoes were different to any other cruiser type shoe we had seen before and had the added benefit of being soft enough for inside but durable enough for outdoor use.

Xplorer shoes from Bobux Ronnie was very excited on opening the shoes and we found that the elasticated heel and small velcro strap proved to be very useful in actually putting the shoe on with ease. It’s always a bit of a mission to put shoes on a wriggling toddler’s feet but these were great!! Made with 100% leather with a flexible sole and no seams to rub on the foot. All of these elements added up to an amazing first shoe. The shoes were a perfect fit as we had used the Bobux Fit Wizard on their website. They were certainly a hit with Ronnie, so much so he was hard to catch. He instantly started running in them as they seemed to add an air of confidence to his newly found skill of walking. ronshoe Thank you Bobux for giving us the pleasure of testing these simple yet ingenious designed shoes, it is nice now to have a broader choice of shoes to choose from for our every growing toddler boy!! We would definitely recommend the Bobux Xplorer shoes.

Grobag Baby Sleeping Bag Review

We were delighted to be selected to review a beautiful Grobag from the Gro Company. We were sent the “Ziggy Pop Grobag” Gro Bag We were already a big fan of the Gro Company and especially love their Grobags and have used them with both Sydney and Ronnie. For those who are not familiar, a little background….

“…In 2000 The Gro Company began working with The Lullaby Trust (Formerly The Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths, FSID), a leading baby charity working to prevent sudden infant deaths, promote baby health and support bereaved families. We started out wanting to create a safe alternative to sheets and blankets which met The Lullaby Trust’s guidelines and all UK safety regulations and British Standards. 10 years on we have a wonderful partnership with The Lullaby Trust, and are proud to have funded over £500,000 of their safe sleep research to date. ”

Gro Bag Ziggy Pop

We particularly loved the design of this one, the colours, turquoise, grey and lime were fresh and modern and complemented Ronnie’s nursery. The 2.5 tog baby sleeping bag is perfect for keeping Ronnie snuggely and warm in the winter months. We chose the largest size in this range, 18-36 months. The Ziggy pop is also available in sizes 0-6 and 6-18 months with the alternative being a 1.0 tog ideal for the summer months.

The feature that we liked was the way that it zipped around the edge with popper fastenings on the shoulders. It was easier to zip the bag up first then pop Ronnie in then secure the fastening on the shoulders. Ronnie can be such a wriggler especially with his new found skills of crawling and walking! Gro Bag   Ronnie has well and truly put this bag to the test we can without a doubt say that we think it is simply amazing!! We are safe in the knowledge that when Ronnie goes to sleep in his cot that we are without worry of sheets or blankets going over his face, he is not restricted and free to move around and he is at the right temperature. Sleep is so important and we think that the Grobag is an essential in safe baby sleeping and would highly recommend to every parent. From new baby through to toddler! A free nursery thermometer is included in 0-6 and 6-18 month sizes also user guide and safe sleep information.

Thank you Gro company for allowing us to have the pleasure in reviewing an ingenious design sleeping bag!   For more information and to view the full range of 2.5 tog baby sleeping bags go to the Grobag Store

Four Months old -no sleep!!!

Ronnie has just turned five months old and we have just come through a month of very little sleep. Just as we felt like Ronnie was in a really good routine, he turned four months old and suddenly he did not require sleep. He only slept for about twenty minutes at a time in the day and at night just about every hour he would wake. Some times crying but most of the time he would be squirming around in his cot and batting the bars or just chattering at full volume….this boy would just not sleep ahhhhhh!!

We tried everything; we kept him up with us until we went to bed,- that didn’t work so we put him to bed early, we left a light on, we left him in darkness, we played music, we rocked him, rubbed his tummy, downloaded white noise apps, we gave him baby rice before bed, teething powders put him in bed with us and… nothing worked.

We researched, trying to pin -point how long this no sleeping lark would last but to our dismay there was no exact science or definite answer. Some said two weeks … two weeks passed and still the same… 3 weeks, 4 weeks… we were stuck…. eat, sleep, rave repeat!!!!!

On reading up, this looks to be a quite normal and common occurrence with little explanation as to what causes it. Some say it’s brain development in that babies are learning new skills, others say growth spurts. There are articles on it being known as “purple crying period” which talks about why babies cry and the patterns they go through.

It seems to be that as hard as it is, the only thing you can do is ride through it. We felt like this was a never ending phase but then like magic Ronnie has started to sleep a lot better, he now sleeps from 7.30pm- 7.00am with a feed at 11.00 and 4.30ish. Life is now good and we hold on to our hats for the next phase or growth spurt!!

We thought we would share our experiences as we found it really tough and it maybe a little reassurance for other sleep deprived parents that there is light and the end of what seems like a long tunnel!!!

Organic Babies Soothing Baby Oil – Scent Free

Here at baby -a we are big fans of natural, organic products and  Green People never fail in producing beautiful products. We have been lucky enough to have had the pleasure in sampling some of their products in the past and the latest product we have been testing is their Organic babies soothing baby oil.

We have been using it on Ronnie for a couple of months and we can honestly say that it has been lovely to use. Ronnie has enjoyed a massage with the oil after his bath, resulting in a relaxed baby ready for bed! There is no harsh overpowering smell that some oils may give off -as it is scent free and it glides over the skin, reinforcing the fact that there are no nasties. We especially like the pump action bottle as it dispenses the baby oil seamlessly without the risk of spillages or mess.

The baby oil is good for babies with sensitive skin and was great for soothing Ronnie’s dry scalp, it really helped prevent cradle cap from developing.ronsleep

A beautiful blend of natural oils to gently nourish and embrace the purity of your baby’s skin.
This fragrance-free baby oil softens and soothes babies with very sensitive skin
May also be suitable for those prone to eczema and psoriasis” (

This oil is something we will be purchasing in the future and it definitely gets the baby-a seal of approval.

Thank you to the Green People for giving us the opportunity again to sample another part your amazing range!!

Happy New Year!!

20131224_104036 Happy new year to all!! Here at baby-a we have had such a busy year, it has gone by in a blink. With moving house and having our beautiful baby boy Ronnie, life is rocketing by. Sydney keeps us busy and for him it has been a big learning year, with lots of change… new house, new brother, new nursery, no nappies and losing Mr doggy!! He discovered Santa this year the whole magic of Christmas. Day by day he is maturing, learning, growing and keeping mummy and daddy right! Ronnie, now 4 months is amazing, he is so quiet and smiley, taking it all in and keeping a watchful eye on Sydney. He puts up with being pulled and poked and being covered in stickiness, it seems that Sydney can do whatever he wants and it very rarely bothers him. It’s like he knows.. inbuilt brother code!!

We have still got a lot of reviews to feature and we have enjoyed working with some great companies and products and we thank you all. This year we hope to add some videos and work on keeping our pages updated and fresh.

Snugglebundl Review

snugWe were very fortunate to be able to test and review a really ingenious product to help parents with their new babies.

Snugglebundl proudly present the world’s first baby lifting wrap blanket. This beautiful multi-award winning baby product has so many incredible uses. The soft, strong handles on this wearable hooded blanket let you lift and lay your baby so gently that they’ll stay sleeping; even lifting babies in and out of car seats, prams and pushchairs without waking them is so easy. Snugglebundl is amazing help for lifting baby after c section and can really help post birth recovery time too.

Ronnie is six weeks old now and we have used the Snugglebundl from the day he was born in hospital. It has been in and out of the wash and has been used every day.

It was so lovely dressing Ronnie for the first time and placing him into a very cosy, secure blanket. It was great for transferring Ronnie to the car seat for his first journey home. One of the features that we particularly liked was the padded head support which really seemed to comfort him.snugcar

We have used the Snugglebundl non stop for different purposes. It has been particularly useful in his pram where he has been sleeping soundly. It has been great for breast feeding when out and about as it aids comfort and discretion. On one occasion Sydney gave the game away by asking nice and loud… “Is Ronnie feeding from your boobie mummy?”… So my cover was well and truly blown!!

We have gained experience in knowing  that when it comes to looking after babies that there are certain ‘must have’ items and others that you buy but don’t actually use. For us (especially mummy) we feel that it falls in to a ‘must have’ item and we can’t recommend it highly enough.

The new challenge for us at present is getting to grips with looking after two children with very different needs. For days when mummy or daddy are alone with the little ones and juggling their demands, the Snugglebundl has really helped. For instance  we can’t take our eyes off Sydney at the moment as he can be quite rough with Ronnie. For all that he loves him he can’t be trusted, as the minute our backs are turned he tries to pick Ronnie up or pat him on the head or poke him in the eyes etc(Poor Ronnie!!!!)… for those reasons we keep the pram up, have a bouncer chair and have the car seat in different areas of the house and the Snugglebundl has been great for transferring Ronnie without disturbing him. It also gives a little extra protection from a sticky boisterous three year old’s hands!

snugliftLife is a little crazy and it is certainly going by in a blink, so to have a small product that does a lot makes a big difference. We feel that anything helps make life easier when caring for children is a Baby-A winner!!!

Thank you Snugglbundl for introducing us to a blanket that we couldn’t be without!

Eleven weeks to go…Differences between first and second pregnancy!

This time round my second pregnancy is flying by… along with work, looking after Sydney and general life, time is disappearing. We are having another baby boy and we are really looking forward to being together as a family. Sydney seems to have a good understanding of the fact that mummy is growing a baby brother and keeps looking at me saying “mummy’s belly is big” but time in his world means nothing and he is only interested in the now. Toddlers have such a good way of thinking in some respect, as they deal with things as they arrive and certainly live life ‘in the moment’.  sydcap

At this point first time round we had just about everything bought, washed and prepared and set out. This time however the house is as messy as ever and there is no safe place to set out our new arrival’s things as a little invader with sticky hands is fully into everything. I know that I have everything stashed in a cupboard that is stacked and and with fear of being squashed when I open the door, I’m hoping there is everything in there that we need. We will get round to it and I just keep thinking that I will sort things out when I’m on maternity leave.

Last time round I was fully dedicated to being pregnant, I would read meditation books have nice long baths and have my feet up when I wasn’t at work. This time I never really have time to stop and I seem to be fine with it. It is only really when I have the odd quiet moment or when I lie down at night that I can focus on our new growing little man.rsz_5nursey

We know this time round however to some extent, what lies ahead of us. I keep having flash backs of labour, breast feeding every two hours in the night, being ratty with each other, lots of visitors and everything else is a blur! I will never forget the amazing feeling of being in hospital with our new baby and it is the best thing in the world. It is nice doing it this time around with a little more experience and by learning from previous mistakes.

Eleven weeks to go and counting…

Babes with Babies -The Magic Maxi dress Review

I was very fortunate to be able to sample a very elegant dress from the London based Babes with Babies.dressboxed

Just to give a little background Babes with Babies offer a whole range of beautiful maternity wear which is designed to flatter all throughout pregnancy and beyond.

Our aim at Bb London is to hunt out those little luxury pieces that can go some way towards helping you feel fabulous when your body and life is changing dramatically.”

They have a beautiful inspirational website which offers a mother to be (like me), confidence and a belief that we too can still look good.

As this is my second pregnancy I had already gone through the whole maternity clothing dilemma, I found that I lived in leggings , stretchy tops and especially towards the end I only had a couple of things that I still fitted into. I threw everything away after months of wearing the same clothing before and after Sydney was born, I couldn’t stand the sight of them any more.

dressopenedI soon realised once I was pregnant again that the time had come to get those stretchy jeans and Lycra tops bought and once again have found myself wearing the same clothing. I live in jeans, tops and flats- extremely comfortable and practical especially with a toddler but not really flattering.

I was really excited to receive a beautiful package from Babes with Babies and was unbelievably impressed when I discovered the attention to detail in the service, packaging and presentation of the Magic Maxi dress. I was desperate to try on the dress… a dress … a dress!! I put it on and I instantly felt wonderful! I couldn’t believe how well it fitted around my bump. The fabric was so soft, stretchy, and of very good quality. Other maxi dresses that I had previously tried on during my first pregnancy made me feel huge and they didn’t really flatter my bump, I just felt like I was wearing a tent! This magic maxi was in a different league, it felt amazing and I knew that it would be a great all round dress.

Putting the dress to the test!

We had a family day at the beach planned so I decided it to test out the dress. It was a very hot day I knew that I would be covered up but feel cool at the same time. I did fear slightly for the dress as I knew going to the seaside with Sydney, along with ice cream and fish and chips in the mix would be a messy business and I wondered how it would survive!

daydressThe dress felt great on, it was so nice not having to wear jeans and leggings. I wore flip flops put my hair up and was on my way! When Sydney saw me he said “..awww mummy a dress” and gave me a big hug!!

The dress as predicted did suffer some abuse, by the end of the day it was covered in sand and ice cream finger prints and other unidentifiable marks that I had gathered. I put the dress straight in the wash when we got home (30degress) and hung it up to dry. It dried quickly and looked as good as new and there was no need to iron it, perfect!!

I knew that if it passed the toddler test and still looked good that it was a dress definitely worth having.

The nice thing about the dress is the fact that it is versatile and could be easily dressed up. I tried it on with heels and my leather jacket and felt glam in it.dressjac

I feel that wherever possible I will be living in this dress for the rest of my pregnancy and it will be amazing for after the birth of my son as it has a special design for breast feeding

All in all I love this dress, I feel girly yet comfortable and with the practicality of the breastfeeding feature and the fact that it washes so well with low maintenance , I feel it is the a must for any mum to be’s wardrobe.

Thank you Babes with Babies for injecting a bit of glamour in a pregnant mummy’s life, I am very grateful for that.

B Organic skincare review

Here at Baby-A we were happy to receive some beautiful products from B Organic. We support natural organic products as we think it is really important especially for babies and children. Sydney is now almost three and it has been amazing to discover that amongst big brand products, that there is a whole world of natural products and from our experience we have found they always come out on top.

B Organic make all of their products using certified organic ingredients and they contain no Parabens, Propylene Glycol, silicone, SlS, SLES, Sulphates and no artificial colours. B Organic was created by Aycin Wateridge ;

My range was created for my daughter. From birth she has suffered from dermatitis and eczema…

… I found the best organic ingredients and teamed up with people in the industry that could help me to create the best products to help with my daughter’s skin condition. None of the harsh chemicals that are currently used to create bubbles and preserve the product to make it last longer on the shelf were used in any of my products as these are the key irritants to the skin.”

We put to the test two products from the B Organic range; Baby & Kids Lavender Body Lotion and Baby & Kids Soothing Body & Bottom Balm with Lavender & Chamomile.

Baby and Kids Lavender Body Lotionborglot

The body lotion was nicely packaged with a pump action dispenser, which was great for applying onto the skin as there was less mess than a squeezable bottle. The lotion it’s self was very light and spread wonderfully on the skin, it also had a very mild smell with just a hint of lavender so it wasn’t too overpowering. We instantly liked this product as it was great as an all over body lotion, ideal for putting on Sydney after his bedtime bath. Sydney’s main dry areas are his arms so it was lovely to have a good even coverage over his affected areas.

After a couple of weeks of use we found that Sydney’s skin was becoming more irritated than usual and we really couldn’t understand as the lotion had nothing in it that would harm him. It wasn’t until I noticed that my skin was also bad, the eczema on the back of my legs flared up and felt itchy. Puzzled… the penny dropped…we had changed our washing powder and it became obvious that it was the powder causing the problem. We reverted back to our original detergent and persevered with the lotion every night before bed and sure enough Sydney’s skin dramatically improved. His arms became a lot softer and the dryness turned in to beautiful moisturised arms. It proved to us that chemicals and skin do not mix and we were grateful for B Organic’s products to help Sydney and Mummy’s skin recover from the harsh washing powder!!

borgbalmBaby & Kids Soothing Body & Bottom Balm with Lavender & Chamomile

The balm came in a pot again nicely packaged and on opening smelt beautiful. The texture was thick and a little grainy but once applied on to the skin the grains disappeared and glided on leaving a luxurious oily moisturised feel. We found that only a small amount was needed, even though it was thick it spread really evenly.

We used this product as a bottom balm on Sydney and for targeting dry skin patches. We used it along side the body lotion after bath time and we applied it on the tops of Sydney’s arms. It was great as a rescue balm in adding extra mositure and reviving the skin. Sydney loved this little pot of balm he liked sticking his fingers in it and applying it on himself!

B Organic now have a large range of products for adults as well as babies and children online. We will be happy to use them on our new baby when he arrives in August as they are all very safe, natural and Organic!!

Thank you B Organic for affirming the fact that natural is indeed best!

Our soon to be… new addition

Here at Baby-a we are pleased to announce that we are expecting our second child. We initially thought we were having twins as they run in the family and I was having very different pregnancy symptoms than with Sydney (and still am). I was extremely nauseous all day long for the first few weeks, my skin was bad, my tummy was huge and Graham said he had a feeling we were having twins…

… after a lot of anticipation and trying to imagine life with twins plus Sydney, we were fully prepared and low and behold there was only one!

We had really mixed feelings and had grown to get used to the idea of having twins, so when there was only one we were a little sad and relieved at the same time.

We are so happy about our soon to be new addition, however we feel that Sydney’s world is going to come crashing down in dramatic toddler style and the new baby will need a crash helmet. We are really excited about our new little bundle due the last week of August 2013.
